Synchronization maintains consistency in data values, regardless of where they are displayed.

When you select a context selector or a list item in a grid row or column, it updates any other pages and cards that display the selected item.

In Anaplan, there are three types of synchronization:

Global context sync refers to the synchronization of data within and across pages. This occurs by default, and means that a data item will contain the same values wherever it displays in your app.

For example, if you open a context selector and choose the item USA, all pages that contain the selector will have USA selected.

Context selector sync refers to the synchronization that occurs by default between the elements on a page.

When you select a data item on a context selector, or a grid row or column, it updates all of the cards that contain the data item. These cards now display the same values as your selection.

A context selector on a card can contain the same data item as a row or a column in a grid. When you select the data item on the grid, it also updates the data displayed in the card.

Hierarchy sync refers to the synchronization of

  • a main grid, containing parent item values; and
  • a secondary grid, containing child item values.

This is useful when a main grid contains a composite list, and you want to drill down to granular data in a second grid.

Composite lists are created by model builders from a series of lists. Each list in the series is assigned a parent in the hierarchy. Within a main grid, you can choose a row or a column, and the hierarchy filters display the child item values within the secondary grid.
