First it selects a specific item from one or more of the hierarchy lists, then it sums values based on a list-formatted line item or property in the source that matches a dimension in the target.

Example

In the following example, a SUM & SELECT formula is used in a results module to show forecast sales for specific products by organization location. The formula references two source modules: Transaction Values and Transaction Details:

Above, we have selected the result for Forecast Sales for Apples sold in London: 14,000.

We can now go to the Transaction Values source module and select the Forecast version, that gives forecast sales amounts per transaction:

If we open the Transaction Details source module, we see that Transactions 1, 9, and 14 are for Apples/London:

The 1, 9, and 14 transaction amounts from the Transactions Value module Forecast version are summed using the What and Where mappings into the Transactions Details source module used in the SUM & SELECT formula, for the result of 14,000:
