When the dimensionality of a line item in a module is changed from the default, a subsidiary view is created to show the data subset and its dimensionality. The subsidiary view shows only those line items to which the dimension applies.
The dimensionality of a subsidiary view can be varied by any list in the model, Time, or Version.
Work with subsidiary views
When working with subsidiary views, bear these points in mind:
- A subsidiary view displays a single line item. If a number of line items in a module require the same dimensionality, consider creating a separate module, based on those dimensions.
-
When creating a subsidiary view you can select one or more dimensions, but this may impact negatively on performance. - If you publish any line item, page selector or grid to a dashboard and it has a subsidiary view, you will not be able to edit the data within the subsidiary view. The data in a subsidiary view can only be edited in its source module.
- If you change the dimensionality of a module, it may lead to data loss.
- Only Workspace Administrators can create or modify subsidiary views.
Create a subsidiary view
- In Blueprint locate the line item where you want the dimensionality to change.
- Depending on the dimension, either:
- Select a list from the drop-down in the Applies To field.
- Select a different timescale in the Timescale field.
- Select a different version in the Versions field.
- Select a combination of a, b, and/or c.
Save a subsidiary view as the default view
You can save a subsidiary view as the default view for a module.
- In the subsidiary view, select View > Save As. Enter a name for the subsidiary view.
- Select the Save as default view for module checkbox.
- Click OK.
Caution: You won't be able to access any other line items from this new default view. Any line items not included in the view will not be visible as a dimension. To make line items visible again, select Reset Default View in the View > Manage Views dialog.
