From a neighboring dataspace, you can manage virtual datasets from the Virtual datasets screen.

View virtual datasets

From the Virtual datasets screen, you can view a list of virtual datasets shared with your dataspace.

You can view the data used in the virtual datasets, and details and column information.

To view the virtual datasets:

  1. Select Data Orchestrator from the top-left navigation menu.
  2. Choose a dataspace from the list.
  3. Select All datasets > Virtual datasets from the left-side panel.

This table lists the information that displays in the columns on the Virtual datasets screen.

Dataset

The name and link of the virtual dataset. The default name uses the original dataset name with the name of the source dataspace: <original dataset name> + <_from_> + <default dataspace name>

Example name: originaldataset_from_defaultdataspace

Select the virtual dataset link to view it's data, or select the row to view a summary of the dataset details and columns.

SourceThe name of the home (source) dataspace. If Access restricted displays, this means you don't have access to the home dataspace.
CreatedThe creation date and time.
UpdatedThe date and time the source of the virtual dataset was updated.
ColumnsThe amount of columns in the virtual dataset.
Number of Links

The amount of links that use this virtual dataset.

This column doesn't display by default. You must edit the displayed columns.

Edit displayed columns

You can edit the columns that display on the Virtual datasets screen.

To change the columns that display:

  1. Select Edit columns at the toolbar on the Virtual datasets screen.
  2. Select the columns you want to display from the Edit columns panel.
    You can also choose Select All to display all the columns, or clear ‌the columns you want to hide.
  3. Select Apply.

Rename a virtual dataset or update the description

You can rename a virtual dataset from the neighboring dataspace. The new name only displays in your neighboring dataspace, and doesn't affect the name shown in the home dataspace. If you rename the shared dataset from the home dataspace, it doesn't affect the virtual dataset's name.

You can also add or change the description for a virtual dataset when you rename it. The description displays in the right-side panel.

To rename a virtual dataset or update the description:

  1. Find the virtual dataset in the Virtual datasets screen.
  2. Select the Options icon to the right of the virtual dataset row.
  3. Select Rename.
  4. Enter a new name in the Name field.
  5. Enter or edit the Description.
  6. Select Apply.

Remove a virtual dataset

You can remove a virtual dataset from the neighboring dataspace if it's no longer needed. 

Be aware that if you remove a virtual dataset, any of its associated dependencies will be invalid. You can't undo this action or retrieve lost data after deletion.

You can either remove one or multiple virtual datasets.

Export virtual datasets data

You can export details that display on the Virtual datasets inventory screen. You can also export the contents of each individual virtual dataset.
