You can integrate workflows directly with external ETL tools such as Azure Synapse Analytics or Azure Data Factory. This enables workflow to execute a process, or pipeline as part of the workflow, that runs an ETL process to import data into the staging tables.  

Azure Data Factory

As a prerequisite to executing a pipeline within Azure Data Factory, a Data Source connection must be defined in Anaplan. See Use Azure Data Factory to learn how to set up the Azure Data Factory Data Source connection. 

To create a new workflow process:

  1. Create a new process in Explorer. 
  2. Select the Task Toolbox icon in the New process menu. Drag Application Integration onto the canvas under the Application category.
  3. Highlight the workflow tool, and select the pencil icon to edit the settings.
  4. Enter a name for the task.
  5. Select the Azure Data Factory connection Data Source created earlier.

  6. The output from the new fields needs to be collected from the Azure Data Factory subscription. They include:
    • Resource Group Name
    • Data Factory Name
    • Process Name, it's the name of the pipeline.
  7. Fill the required details with the settings from Azure Data Factory and select Save.

The Azure Data Factory pipeline is now available to execute schedules via the Anaplan workflow process.

Azure Synapse Analytics

As a prerequisite to executing a pipeline within Azure Synapse Analytics, a Data Source connection must be defined in Anaplan. See Use Azure Synapse Analytics to learn how to set up the Azure Synapse Analytics.

To create a new workflow process:

  1. Create a new process in Explorer.

  4. Enter a name for the task.
  5. Select the Azure Synapse Analytics connection Data Source created earlier.

  6. The output from the new fields needs to be collected from the Azure Synapse Analytics subscription. They include:
    • Dev Endpoint
    • Process Name, it's the name of the pipeline.
  7. The Development Endpoint can be found in Settings > Properties for the Synapse Workspace.
  8. Fill the required details with the settings from Azure Data Factory and select Save.

The Azure Data Factory pipeline is now available to execute schedules via the Anaplan Financial Consolidation workflow process.
