If you create a link that links a dataset to a hierarchy in a model, you have the option to balance the hierarchies. If your link includes hierarchies, Anaplan Data Orchestrator balances the hierarchies by default.

In a composite hierarchy, the hierarchy levels must be balanced in an Ananplan model. A balanced hierarchy ensures that the number of ancestors across the hierarchy are the same.

When you balance hierarchies, it ensures that if the dataset has missing data at intermediary levels (NULL values), Data Orchestrator fills these values with placeholder values.

You can filter the links on the Links inventory screen to find which links include hierarchies.

To find links that include hierarchies:

  1. Select Data Orchestrator from the top-left navigation menu.
  2. Choose a dataspace from the list.
  3. Select Links from the left-side panel.
  4. Select the Filter icon .
  5. Expand the Target type dropdown from the Filter right-side panel.
  6. Select Hierarchies.
  7. Select Apply.

To turn on balance hierarchies:

  1. Find the link that includes hierarchies on the Links inventory screen.
  2. Select the link row.
The Export information panel expands on the right and displays the link information.
  3. Turn on the Balance hierarchies switch.

The Balance hierarchies switch is turned on by default. You can turn off the switch.

To turn off balance hierarchies:

  1. Find the link that includes hierarchies on the Links inventory screen.
  2. Select an area within the link row to open the Export information right-side panel.
    Don't select the dataset link.
  3. Turn off the Balance hierarchies switch.
