Setup the appropriate attributes for the foreign currency Conversion calculation.

Account attributes are essential for identifying and managing the various accounts within the system.

AttributeDescription
Debit/CreditThe conversion calculation depends on having the correct debit and credit attributes specified for every account. If the account is debit or credit, there are rules. It's important to select the correct Conversion Rule in the next section.
Conversion Rule

There are specific Conversion Rules for debit and credit accounts, so it's important to select the correct rule.

  • The Historical Rate (Debit) rule is often used for dividends since this account is often tagged as a debit account.
  • Non-Monetary (Credit) is often used when Accumulated Depreciation accounts are tagged as Credit accounts.

The choice to select a debit or credit for certain accounts is based on the sign to be displayed in the financial statements.

For example, choose to display Accumulated Depreciation accounts as negative or positive amounts.

Read more about a list of sample system names at the end of this table.

System Name

This enables the specification of an attribute for specific accounts, allowing for automatic calculation regardless of the name of the member.

System names are constantly being used in new calculations, so the list below may not be comprehensive. The system names should be set for all systems regardless of the calculations being used.

VariationThe Variation attribute should be set to True for all Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts.

This is a sample of the most-used System Name that should be set for all customers.

Current Earnings
  • The journal entry Post and Unpost procedure uses the Current Earnings system name to ensure that all amounts that are posted to Net Income accounts are appropriately reflected in the Retained Earnings Current Earnings account.

This account should be blocked so that manual journal entries can't be posted directly against this account because it's a calculated account.

Update the attributes for Entity members.

AttributeDescription
Local CurrencyThis attribute is used to set the local currency for each Entity.
Conversion Method

This attribute sets the conversion method for each Entity.

If a conversion method hasn't been defined, the system assumes the Current Method is used.

Additional Reporting Currency

This attribute is only required if you wish to run the conversion calculation on a specific entity or sub-group in a reporting currency not already identified as a reporting currency.

This is often needed when running a sub-consolidation in a reporting currency other than the main reporting currency.

When you tag a currency as a reporting currency, the system converts all local currencies to that reporting currency.

The Additional Reporting Currency attribute is a way to restrict the conversion to specific entities.

All currency attributes should be set for the conversion calculation to run properly.

Update the Converted attribute for Audit members.

AttributeDescription
Converted

It's important that all Audit members that contain source data be set to Yes

Almost all Audit members calculated by Anaplan Financial Consolidation should be set to No.

Update the Converted attribute for DataView members.

AttributeDescription
Converted

Value member and any other member that needs to be converted should be set to Yes

The Conversion, Consolidation, and Calculation members should be set to No

All attributes except for the Last Period are optional unless you run the conversion on scenarios requiring constant currency conversion.

The Last Period should be set to the last period of the year, which is 12. This may change if you combine using 13 periods or combine on a quarterly basis. In that case, the Last Period would be 4.

Update the Month and Year attribute for Date members.

AttributeDescription
MonthThis parameter is used to set the number of the month, such as, 1, 2, 3 and is used in several calculations. This should be set regardless of the calculations that are being run.
YearThis parameter is used to set the number of the year, such as, 2023 and is used in several calculations. This should be set regardless of the calculations that are being run.
