Create a Waterfall Chart using the example below:
- On a new sheet, insert a new waterfall chart from the Business Chart dropdown on the Anaplan XL ribbon.
- Select the Pivot View row on the Manage Connections window, OK, and OK again.
- In the task pane, expand the Account Dimension and drag and drop the Account hierarchy to Categories.
- Expand the Year dimension and drag and drop the Year hierarchy to Columns
- Select the Member Selector tab
- Expand All and double-click 2018 and 2019 for the year hierarchy.
- Choose Account from the Hierarchy dropdown.
- Expand All and double-click Licenses, Consulting, Maintenance, Other revenue, Sales Revenue, Other op. Income, Purchases, Material expenses, Personnel expenses, Amortization, Other op. expenses, Operating expenses, Operating result, Investment income, Financial income, net, Result before tax, Income tax, and Result after tax.
- Select Apply.
Use the range picker to size the chart. Sizing the chart to an Excel range will help align the variance charts later.
- Select the waterfall chart and the Excel Range Selection icon.
- Select an Excel Range within the worksheet, and choose OK.
Expense accounts are being plotted correctly as having a negative contribution to the total. The previous year is formatted in a lighter color, and the totals and subtotals are formatted in bold with a top border. This has been applied automatically because of the business rules.
The subtotal count needs to be corrected on the Operating expenses member.
- Right-click on the waterfall bar and select Waterfall > Custom subtotal count.
- Set it to 5.
Format chart
In the Dynamic Chart Ribbon, set the style to "IBCS". This will apply to several standard formatting settings:
- Left-align category labels
- Remove values axis
- Hide gridlines
- Show data labels
Add any other changes you want, for example remove the chart border by choosing the ribbon or right-clicking on the chart and choosing chart properties.
- Turn off Show back/forward controls on the General Options tab and Zoom on charts on the Animation tab in the chart properties. This removes the arrows and resets the icons in the upper left of the chart, which aren't being used.
