You can import module data from saved views to Anaplan Data Orchestrator. Before you import the data, we recommend that you  review the limitations and the recommended data formats for saved views and exports.

Saved views maintain how the data in a module displays and can be used as a data source into Data Orchestrator.

Review these Data Orchestrator limitations when you import saved views.

ItemDescription
Subsidiary views

If your module contains subsidiary views, your saved views:

  • Can't contain a mix of subsidiary and non-subsidiary line items.
  • Needs one subsidiary line item per saved view.
Changes to saved views

If the saved view is changed in a way that impacts the dataset structure, the update fails. For example, the update fails if you add, remove, or rename a line item.

Note that:

  • You can still modify the view such that the rows change.
  • You can filter on all dimensions except line items.
  • A new source dataset needs to be created, and populated for the updated saved view.
Source datasetsSource datasets exclude data at the aggregated level.
String-based line item valuesIf you export string-based line item values that contain special characters, such as a <new line>, the export fails.
DimensionalitySaved views must have a dimension in both axes.
Filtered rowsIf you export a saved view with no rows because of a filter, the export fails.

Follow these guidelines to format your saved views before you import them to Data Orchestrator:

ItemGuidelines
Line items in columnsHave the line items in the columns. The export to Data Orchestrator will always have the line items as the columns of the dataset.
Dimensions in columnsSaved views must have a dimension in columns, in rows, and in each axis. Data Orchestrator doesn't support a module with just line items.

When you import the saved views into Data Orchestrator, note these recommendations:

ItemRecommendations
DatasetsYou should create separate datasets for each saved view.
Default name

The default name must be based on the name of the saved view and have a number suffix.

The default name must have a number suffix if there's already a source dataset with this name.

Resync dataThe data in the saved view fully replaces the data in the existing dataset when the source is resynced.
