Anaplan Financial Consolidation comes out of the box with several pre-configured conversion rules for the Self-Sustaining (Current) and the Integrated (Temporal) methods.

In theory, the only change required is to update these rules with the naming convention of the your chart of accounts. 

Some rules may not require any changes, such as EndRate BS but some other rules, such as, Non-Monetary, will require changes. 

Note: If you change the standard names for the Movement dimension or add new Movement members that aren't attached to the standard parent members, you will need to modify the existing Conversion Rules to reflect those changes or add new rules.

To access the form:

  1. Select the Maintain module.
  2. Select Consolidation if prompted for a Rule Set.
  3. Select Conversion Rules in the Conversion section to open the form.
  4. A list of the current Conversion Rules is displayed.

Conversion Method

This field is used to specify the conversion method for each rule. The standard options are:

  • Integrated
  • Current

This field is defined for each entity, and the Conversion Method is used to know which rules to use. 

For example:

  • PP&E accounts use the Non-Monetary rule. When translating an Integrated entity, the system uses the integrated rules portion of the Non-Monetary rule. 
  • When translating a Current Entity, the system uses the current rules portion of the Non-Monetary rule. 
Movement

Each Movement member that needs to change should be included in the Conversion Rule. This helps in having a balanced schedule in reporting currency.

Rules can be set for:

  • Leaf members such as Allocation.
  • Parent members such as Total Cash Variation. If a parent member is selected, the rule applies to each leaf member under the parent.
Apply Periodic
  • Blank: The system takes the entire YTD amount in local currency and translates it using the specified formula. It's used when converting working capital accounts.
  • Periodic: The system converts from local to translated currency using the current period activity amount multiplied by the specified formula. To calculate the translated current period YTD amount, the system takes the converted periodic amount and adds the prior period YTD translated amount. It's used for accounts that use the Historical or Non-Monetary rule, such as Capital Stock or Fixed Assets.
  • Periodic - PP YTD from Destination Account (formerly named Periodic YTD from Source): This is the same logic as Periodic. However, the translated prior period YTD amount is taken from the Destination Account instead of the Source Account. This parameter is used when calculating CTA or Translation Gain (Loss) accounts.
  • Periodic - PP YTD from Destination Account Invert (formerly named Periodic YTD from Source Invert): This parameter is the same as the previous parameter, except that the sign is inverted due to the nature of the account and its debit and credit property.
Target MovementThis field is used to specify the Movement member being calculated. 
Target AccountGenerally, the target account field is left blank unless calculating CTA or Translation Gain (Loss).
Target IntercompanyThis field is rarely used in standard Conversion Rules but is available should there be custom rules that need to be defined for specific intercompany members.
FormulaThis field is used to define the formula to be used for conversion.
Sum to Movement

This field is used to aggregate the individual Movement members to calculate the Closing member. It is only used for rules that don't implicitly calculate the Closing member, such as the Historical rule.

To understand when to use Sum To Movement, let's examine the Non-Monetary rule. In the Current conversion section, there's a rule to calculate the Closing member, so you don't need to use the Sum to Movement field here. However, in the Integrated conversion section, there's no rule to calculate the Closing member. Instead, the Closing member is calculated by summing the individual Movement members using the Sum To Movement feature. 

Target DataViewIt's always set to Conversion to ensure that converted data is stored in a specific Dataview member, separate from other members. If you change the name of the Conversion member, you will need to change all the rules to use the new name.
