Anaplan Financial Consolidation comes out-of-the-box with several pre-configured conversion rules for the Self-Sustaining (Current) and the Integrated (Temporal) methods. Pre-configured conversion rules sometimes need to be changed with the name of your chart of accounts. If needed, new custom rules can be added.

Manage conversion rules using the input form.

To access the form:

  1. Select the Maintain module.
  2. Select Consolidation if prompted for a Rule Set.
  3. Select Conversion Rules in the Conversion section to open the form.
  4. A list of the current Conversion Rules is displayed.

The Conversion rule form opens with all the Conversion rule headers in view.

These columns for the Conversion Rule headers are available:

HeaderValue
Conversion

It's the name of the Conversion rule. This name must be unique.

Conversion rules are then applied to Accounts using the Conversion property.

Model

It's the model that the Conversion rule will apply to.

If no Model is specified, the default Consolidation model in your system will be used.

Start Date

This field is optional. A date when the rule should start being applied can be specified.

Time sensitive rules are useful when there's a change in accounting standards.

End Date

This field is optional. A date when the rule should end being applied can be specified.

Time sensitive rules are useful when there's a change in accounting standards.

When you select a Conversion Rule, the Details pane opens at the bottom of the screen displaying the details of the selected rule.

These columns for the rule details are available:

ColumnValue
Conversion Method

This field is used to specify the Conversion Method. The standard options are:

  • Integrated
  • Current

The Entities in your system are defined ‌by either of the two methods.

If none is set, the default is Current by using the Conversion Method Entity property.

The system executes either the Integrated or the Current rules based on the Entity Conversion Method property.

Movement

Each Movement member that needs to change should be included in the Conversion Rule. This helps in having a balanced continuity schedule in reporting currency.

Rules can be set for:

  • Leaf members: Set rules for leaf members, such as Allocation.
  • Parent members:  If a parent member, such as Total Cash variation, is selected, the rule applies to each leaf member under the parent.
Apply Periodic
  • Blank: The system takes the entire YTD amount in local currency and translates it using the specified formula. It's used when converting working capital accounts.
  • Periodic: The system converts from local to translated currency using the current period activity amount multiplied by the specified formula. To calculate the translated current period YTD amount, the system takes the converted periodic amount and adds the prior period YTD translated amount. It's used for accounts that use the Historical or Non-Monetary rule, such as Capital Stock or Fixed Assets.
  • Periodic - PP YTD from Destination Account (formerly named Periodic YTD from Source): This is the same logic as Periodic. However, the translated prior period YTD amount is taken from the Destination Account instead of the Source Account. This parameter is used when calculating CTA or Translation Gain (Loss) accounts.
  • Periodic - PP YTD from Destination Account Invert (formerly named Periodic YTD from Source Invert): This parameter is the same as the previous parameter, except that the sign is inverted due to the nature of the Account and its Debit and Credit property.
Target Movement

This field is used to specify the Movement member being calculated.

  • Usually if the Source Movement is a leaf member, the Target Movement member is specified.
  • If a parent Source Movement member is used, the Target Movement is left blank.
Target AccountGenerally, the Target Account field is left blank unless calculating CTA or Translation Gain (Loss).
Target IntercompanyThis field is rarely used in standard conversion rules but is available should there be custom rules that need to be defined for specific Intercompany members.
Target DataViewIt's always set to Conversion to ensure that converted data is stored in a specific DataView member separate from other members. If you change the name of the Conversion member, you will need to change all the rules to use the new name.
Conversion Formula

This field is used to define the formula to be used for conversion.

These formulas exist in your provisioned Anaplan Financial Consolidation portal:

  • ALL_
  • [Average]
  • [EndRate]
  • [EndRate]-[HISTORICAL]
  • [EndRate]-[Average]
  • [EndRate]-[OpeningEndRate]
  • [EndRate]-[OpeningAverage]
  • [HISTORICAL]
  • -[HISTORICAL]
  • [OpeningEndRate]
  • [OpeningEndRate]-[OpeningAverage]
  • [OpeningAverage]
  • [Average]*[EndRate]
  • [Average]*-1
    [Compute]
  • -[Compute]
  • [EndRate]*-1

You can add more Formulas to your system in the Rules Configuration – Conversion Formula form in the Explorer module. The Conversion Formulas form is under the Conversion card in the Maintain module.

Sum to MovementThis field is used to aggregate the individual Movement members to calculate the Closing member. It is only used for rules that don't implicitly calculate the Closing member, such as the Historical rule.
