The Manage Ownership for consolidations guide helps administrators in setting up and modifying ownership details for entities within a consolidation hierarchy. This includes configuring consolidation methods and ownership rates by scenario, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Once the entity hierarchy has been created, the administrator can set the consolidation method and the ownership rate for each entity based on the consolidation level using the Manage Ownership form.

‌Ownership Details can be set by Scenario. This means that each member within the Scenario dimension can have different consolidation methods and rates.

Navigate to the Maintain module. Under the Ownership card, select the Manage Ownership link.

To modify the ownership of an entity or entities, double-click on a member within the Entity's hierarchical structure and make the changes on the screen on the right.

ParameterDescription
EntityUse this field to select the leaf entity that needs consolidation. A leaf entity can be repeated multiple times based on the entity hierarchy's consolidation levels and the ownership change over time.
GroupIt defines the leaf entity's consolidation of parent members or groups. Each parent in the entity hierarchy should have a record in the ownership table from the lowest parent to the top parent.
Method

It's used to select the consolidation method for each entity. The consolidation method isn't selected automatically based on the ownership rate. Control often decides which consolidation method to use, not the ownership rate. Anaplan Financial Consolidation is pre-configured with several consolidation methods, such as:

  • Holding: It consolidates an entity 100% and is used for holding companies. A holding company's equity accounts aren't allocated to ‌Group or Minority accounts. This is the main difference between Global 100% and Holding 100%.
  • Global: It's used for subsidiaries that are either 100% or less than 100% owned.
    • If the ownership rate is less than 100%: The Non-Controlling Interest calculation is applicable.
    • If the ownership rate is 100%: Allocation of 100% of the equity amounts to the Group accounts is applicable.

The allocation to group accounts is only done for European consolidations.
  • Equity: It's used for subsidiaries that need to be consolidated using the Equity Method.
  • Proportionate: It means presenting an investor's pro-rata share of a venture's assets and liabilities in each applicable line item of the investor's balance sheet and pro-rata results of a venture's operations in each applicable line item in its income statement.

Other consolidation methods can be created using the Consolidation Rules form. Most customers use the standard pre-configured rules and only need to adjust them based on their chart of accounts.

Start Date

It defines the start date for a consolidation method/rate.

Anaplan Financial Consolidation supports time-based calculations. This applies to the Ownership form.

If the ownership rate or consolidation method changes over time, the administrator must add an entry in the table with the appropriate start and end date and the corresponding ownership rate and method.

When the consolidation process runs, it refers to the start and end dates in the ownership table to determine the consolidation method and rate to use for the Period and Scenario being consolidated.

End DateIt defines the end date for a consolidation method/rate.
Ownership PercentageUse this field to enter the ownership rate of the entity. The rate is based on the level being consolidated, which means the rate can change as upper levels are consolidated.
Control PercentageThis field isn't used in any standard, pre-configured calculation. It may be used in the future or if customers create their own consolidation rules.
Minority PercentageThis field isn't used in any standard, pre-configured calculation. It may be used in the future or if customers create their own consolidation rules.
Initialize Ownership

This button is used to pre-populate entity members with these parameters:

  • Consolidation: Global
  • Ownership Percentage: 100%

It's useful during the initial setup of the system ‌to populate all entities with the most used method and rate. Re-use this feature for new entities, and it won't change the settings for existing entities.

You can visualize your organizational structure.
