Dashboards in Anaplan allows you to configure maps for these regions:

  • Australian states and territories
  • Canadian provinces
  • European countries
  • French departments (mainland only)
  • New Zealand regions
  • Russian federal districts
  • USA states
  • World countries

To create a map chart you must:

  1. Download map chart regions and codes
  2. Create and configure the map chart, then publish it to a dashboard

Alternatively, you can also change a page selector using a map chart.

Note: Map charts do not update dynamically when new data items are added to the grid on which they are based. On a dashboard, selecting a region will show the values comprising the aggregated values shown on the map.

Download map chart regions and codes

Before you can create a Map chart, you need a source file that contains a list of regions and their respective ISO codes. These are presented as .csv files and must be added to your model as a list.

Download the map regions and codes for use with your map charts. This download is a .zip file that contains .csv files for the regions supported by Anaplan.

Once you've downloaded the map regions and codes, you need to create a list that relates to the regions that you want to base your map chart on. Then, import the .csv file that contains the relevant region codes.

Create and configure a map chart

  1. Create a module using the regions list.
  2. Pivot the grid to place regions on rows and line items on columns.
  3. Optionally, color-code the map chart. Select the Conditional Formatting button on the toolbar, and then select New Rule to set up a new rule for the required thresholds.
  4. Highlight the column containing the data on which to base the map chart, then either:
  • Select the Charts button on the Anaplan Toolbar and select Map Chart.
  • From the View menu, select Create Chart from Selection then Map Chart.
    The Chart Options dialog displays.
  1. Choose values for the chart options. In addition, Map-type charts allow you to configure:
  • A Map Type dropdown that enables the selection of different regions.
  • A Show Region Labels option, that displays region labels on your map.
  • A Region Labels Source button, to select the dimensions used to generate the chart.
  1. Select Publish to Dashboard and pick a target dashboard.

Note: When generating a map chart of Australia, if you put the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) at the top of the list of states and territories, it will not display on the map when the chart is generated. This doesn’t apply if you put any other state or territory at the top of the list.

Change a page selector using a map chart

  1. Create a dashboard containing a map chart and the grid used to generate that chart.
  2. On the grid, select Pivot from the View menu and specify the regions as a page dimension.
  3. Open the Dashboard Designer and, in the Selection Options section of the Properties panel, select Synchronize Selection to update the data dynamically when an alternative combination is selected on the dashboard.
  4. Select Save & Exit Dashboard Designer. Select a region on the chart to change the page selected on the grid and display the data for that region.
