Workflow templates let you combine a sequence of tasks together to run Anaplan Data Orchestrator actions. You can run tasks immediately after the you set up the workflow template, or on a schedule.
To use Workflow, you must be assigned the Process Owner role. Tenant administrators can assign the Process Owner role in Administration.
Note:Workflow is an entitled service and you must opt in to access this feature. If you aren't entitled to Workflow, you can only include these workflow steps in the template: Machine task, Notification step, and Data Orchestrator
To set up Workflow with Data Orchestrator, create a workflow template that runs Data Orchestrator actions.
You can run these Data Orchestrator actions with the workflow template:
Extract action: Use this action to extract data from a connection to Data Orchestrator. Create a data extract in Data Orchestrator to run this action.
Link action: Use this action to push data from Data Orchestrator to an Anaplan model. Create a link in Data Orchestrator that pushes data to a model to run this action.
Create a workflow template
You can create a workflow template that runs Data Orchestrator extract and link actions.
To create a workflow template:
Select Workflow from the top-left navigation menu.
Select Workflows > Templates from the left-side panel.
Select Create > Template.
Enter a Name and Description, and then select Create template.
Add an extract action to the workflow template:
Select Data Orchestrator as the workflow step from the right-side panel.
Under Task details, enter a Title and Instructions.
Under Select action:
Action type: Extract
Action: Select a Data Orchestrator extract.
Add a link action to the workflow template:
Under ON SUCCESS, select the plus icon to add the link action.
Select Data Orchestrator as the workflow step from the right-side panel.
Under Task details, enter a Title and Instructions.
Under Select action, select:
Action type: Link
Action: Select a Data Orchestrator link.
Either add a workflow step to handle failures or tell the workflow to ignore failures:
To add a workflow step to handle failures, select the plus icon under ON FAILURE and select a workflow step.
To tell the workflow to ignore failures, turn on the Continue workflow on failure switch.
Select Publish.
Start the workflow
After you create the workflow template, you can either start the workflow immediately, or schedule when you want the workflow to start.
To start the workflow:
Select Workflow > Templates from the left-side panel.
Select the template you created.
Select Start workflow from the right-side panel.
From the Start workflow dialog, enter the workflow details and select Next:
Make sure the template you selected displays in the Start template field.
Enter a Workflow name.
Enter a Workflow description.
Select when you want the workflow to start:
Start immediately: If you choose this option, select Start workflow on the next page.
Start on a certain date, or repeat on a schedule: If you choose this option, choose the data and time for the workflow to start on the next page, and then select Start workflow.
