Use the Consolidation Rules form to add, delete, edit, activate, deactivate, and duplicate consolidation rules.

Anaplan Financial Consolidation comes out of the box with several pre-configured consolidation rules, including Non-Controlling Interest (NCI), Equity Pickup, and Intercompany Eliminations.

To access the form:

  1. Select the Maintain module.
  2. Select Consolidation if prompted for a Rule Set.
  3. Select Consolidation Rules in the Consolidation card.
  4. A list of the current Consolidation Rules is displayed.

The Consolidation rule form opens with all the Consolidation rule headers in view.

The default is the Consolidation data model.

Source Audit

This field is used to define the Source Audit member. It's rarely used and left blank, which means applying the consolidation to all Audit members.

You use this field if reporting in multiple GAAP is needed. It's ‌used in case when you want to consolidate using Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) rules for other Audit members and combine using IFRS.

Special Event

This field is used when certain rules are applied to all accounts. These rules include the rule that changes the Trial Balance for the Equity Method and the Proportionate Consolidation calculation. Both of these rules are applied to all accounts and aren't set using the Account Attribute table.

Consolidation rules set to No are account-specific and must be set in the Account Attribute table.

Active

Use this field to activate a consolidation rule.

A rule with Active field set to False won't be calculated during the consolidation process.

Right-click a rule and select Activate or Deactivate.

Inactive rules are highlighted in grey and appear at the end of the list of Consolidation rules.

Start Date

Use this field to define the start date for a consolidation rule.

Time-sensitive rules are useful when there's a change in accounting standards.

Time-sensitive rules are useful when there is a change in accounting standards.

Source ScenarioUse this field to define the source scenario for a consolidation rule.

When you select a Consolidation Rule, the Details pane opens at the bottom of the screen displaying the details of the selected rule.

These columns for the rule details are available:

ColumnValue
Source AccountThis field is used to specify the source Account member for the consolidation rule.
Source Movement

This field is used to specify the specific Movement member for the consolidation rule.

Usually, this field is set to All_ for Balance Sheet Rules, which means that the rule will be applied to all movement members.

It should be set to Closing for Income Statement rules.

Source Time

This field is used to specify the source time period to be used in the calculation rule. The available options are:

  • Current: This parameter uses the YTD amount of the period being calculated.
  • Periodic: This parameter uses the periodic amount of the period being calculated.
  • PriorYear: This parameter retrieves the P12 YTD amount of the previous year.
  • PriorPeriod: This parameter is used to retrieve the prior period YTD amount. If calculating March YTD, Anaplan Financial Consolidation will retrieve February YTD.
  • Periodic (Calculate YTD): This parameter calculates the current period YTD amount by multiplying the current periodic amount by the ownership rate and then adding that result to the prior period YTD amount.
This calculation provides a YTD blended rate. This assumes that you are using the same account to calculate YTD.
  • Periodic (Calculate YTD from Source): This parameter is similar to Periodic (Calculate YTD) except that it is used when customers want the calculated amount to be stored in a different account than the source account.
  • Periodic (Calculate YTD from Source) Invert:
This parameter is the same as Periodic (Calculate YTD) except that the sign will be inverted. This is required for accounts that have different Debit or Credit attributes.
SignSpecify the operator to be used in the Consolidation. Allowable values are + and -.
Account

It's the target account that is calculated if different from the account to which the rule was assigned.

If left blank, the target account is the same as the account to which the rule was assigned.

Movement

This field is used to specify the target Movement member.

The calculation will be applied to all Movement members when this field is blank.

Force ClosingIf a consolidation rule calculates a specific Movement member, such as Additions, this field automatically re-calculates the Closing member. This avoids having to create too many rules.
IntercompanyThis field is used to specify the Target Intercompany member. Most of the time, this field is left blank, which means that the consolidation rule is applied to all Intercompany members.
Force Intercompany

This field automatically calculates the Intercompany Total leaf member to ensure that the details by trading partner equals the Intercompany Total leaf member.

It's used when customers load intercompany details in the trading partner members and also use a Total Intercompany leaf member to load the total of all trading partners.

The Force Intercompany parameter calculates the Total Intercompany leaf member.

Swap Equity AccountThis rule is often used in Europe to change the original account for the Equity Method calculation.
RepartitionThese rules are used to define the ownership rate to use for each consolidation method. Several repartition rules have been pre-configured, and can be found in the Rules Setup form under the Repartition Rules section.
Repartition Type

It is used to specify the repartition or distribution between the minority and the group amounts. The available options are described below.

  • 100%: This parameter is used to reverse the entire amount so it can be distributed to the Group and Minority accounts.
  • Group Part: This parameter distributes the 100% amount to the Group account based on the Ownership Rate.
  • Minority Part: This parameter is used to distribute the 100% amount to the Minority account based on the Ownership Rate.
