Define how Movement and Account intersections behave. 

This affects:

  • The Balance Sheet Continuity input forms. Account and Movement combinations can either be locked, open, or hidden from input depending on the Movement Classifications assigned to the Balance Sheet Accounts.
  • Journal Entries. Depending on the Movement Classifications assigned to your Accounts, this'll determine the valid Movement/Account combinations when trying to post a Journal Entry.

Note: If no Movement Classifications are defined, Journal Entries will be able to be posted to any Movement and Account combination.

There are three steps to setting up Movement Classifications:

  1. Setup of Movements classification groups.
  2. Define Movements within the movement classification groups.
  3. Assign Movement classification groups to accounts.

Access the form

To access the form:

  1. Select the Maintain module.
  2. Select Consolidation if prompted for a Rule Set.
  3. Select Movement Classifications in the General Setup section to open the form.

A list of the current Movement Classification is displayed.

Movement Classification headers

Classification groups are created within the form. These groups define how a set of Movements behave in the Balance Sheet Continuity, Input Apps, and Journal Entries. Movement Classification groups are applied as a property in the Accounts dimension.

Movement Classification Details

When you select a Movement Classification Rule, the Details pane opens at the bottom of the screen displaying the details of the selected rule.

Specify the Movement member to set the behavior on.

  • If you select a parent Movement, all Movements below the parent inherit the parent settings. 
  • If you select a lower-level member in the form, the parent settings are changed.
Allow InputDefines whether direct input is allowed for that Movement for any accounts in that Movement Classification.
Intercompany

Defines whether the Movement is an intercompany input for that Movement for any accounts in that Movement Classification. If this is set to:

  • True: Direct input in the Balance Sheet Continuity Input apps isn't allowed. Input will only be allowed into the Balance Sheet Intercompany input app by a trading partner.

This field isn't used when determining the allowable Movement and Account combinations for Journal Entries. This is only applicable to the Balance Sheet Continuity Schedule.
