The most common use of Calculation rules is to calculate cash flow. The customer usually sets the rules for calculation rules because each cash flow hierarchy is specific to that customer. The Trial Balance accounts that are used to calculate ‌cash flow are also specific to that customer.

Cash Flow rules are like mapping tasks. They involve putting certain Trial Balance accounts and Movement members into designated Cash Flow accounts.

To access the form:

  1. Select the Maintain module.
  2. Select Consolidation if prompted for a Rule Set.
  3. Select Calculation Rules in the Calculation section to open the form.

A list of the current calculation rules is displayed.

The two key aspects of the form are the header rows and the details.

The Calculation rule form opens with all the calculation rule headers in view. These are the available columns for the headers:

ColumnValue
AccountIt's the Target Account for the calculation.
Calculation Type

It's the category of the calculation. The available options by default are:

  • CashMovement – Direct
  • CashMovement – Indirect
  • KPI
  • Debit Ratio
  • Calculation First
These run before any consolidation calculations when running the Run All process. This means that it runs before the Variation calculation.

Additional options can be created using the Calculation Types administration form.

Model

It's the Model that the Calculation rule will apply to.

If no Model is specified, the default Consolidation model in your system is used.

Source ConditionThis field isn't being used but has been added for future use. The default value is False

When you select a Calculation Rule, the Calculation Rule Details pane opens at the bottom of the screen. It shows the details of the chosen Calculation rule.

These columns for the Calculation Rule details are available:

ColumnValue
LevelNormally set to 0. This is only required if you have multiple source Account members.
Target MovementThis field is used to specify the target Movement member for the calculation rule.
Target AuditThis field is used to specify the target Audit member for the calculation rule.
OperatorThis is the mathematical operator to be used in the calculation rule.
Source AccountThis is the source Account that is used in the calculation rule.
Source MovementThis is the source Movement that is used in the calculation rule.
Source AuditThis is the source Audit that is used in the calculation rule.
Source Time

This field is used to specify the source time period to be used in the calculation rule. The available options are:

  • Current: This parameter uses the YTD amount of the period being calculated.
  • Periodic: This parameter uses the periodic amount of the period being calculated.
  • PriorYear: This parameter retrieves the P12 YTD amount of the previous year.
  • PriorPeriod: This parameter is used to retrieve the prior period YTD amount. If calculating March YTD, Anaplan Financial Consolidation will retrieve February YTD.
  • Periodic (Calculate YTD): This parameter calculates the current period YTD amount by multiplying the current periodic amount by the ownership rate and then adding that result to the prior period YTD amount.
This calculation provides a YTD blended rate. This assumes that you are using the same account to calculate YTD.
  • Periodic (Calculate YTD from Source): This parameter is similar to Periodic (Calculate YTD) except that it is used when customers want the calculated amount to be stored in a different account than the source account.
  • Periodic (Calculate YTD from Source) Invert:
This parameter is the same as Periodic (Calculate YTD) except that the sign will be inverted. This is required for accounts that have different Debit or Credit attributes.

You must ensure that Audit members are set as the p_Audit property in the Entity dimension. Data input into the Balance Sheet Continuity Schedule is input to the Audit member set on the selected Entity parameter.
