Create a journal entry within the Journals module, based on your role permissions.

When creating a journal entry, your security profile determines what you can see and select. Here is how security profiles affect the creation of journal entries:

  • You can only see and choose members that your security profile allows.
  • If you're only allowed to write to leaf members, you'll see the parent grayed out and you can't select it.
  • If you don't have access to any of the leaf members under a parent, you won't see the parent category at all.
  • If you have permission to write to a parent, you can select the parent member for querying the journals or select all leaf members under a parent for saving, editing, or posting a journal.
  1. Navigate to the Journals module.
  2. Select the required filter values, such as Scenario, date, etc., in the New Query, then choose OK.
  3. Select the required journal configuration. This applies to cases where multiple journal configurations are set up.
  4. Select Create New from the upper right toolbar menu.
The Create New Journal Entry window opens.
ParameterValue
Date
  1. Type a date member, such as 2025 December, or select Edit.
  2. Or expand a parent member, such as 2025 – FY2025 and 2025 Q4 – Quarter 4, 2025.
  3. Double-click 2025 Dec – December 2025.
Other Dimensions
  1. Select the edit icon next to another dimension, such as Entity, or type a member into the correct dimension.
  2. Enter a specific Entity such as 120 in Search.
  3. Or double-click the member and select OK.
  4. Select the appropriate members for each dimension.
Recurring Journal Settings
  1. Select the Recurring checkbox if the accounting entry is to be repeated periodically.
  2. Select Edit next to the checkbox.
    • You can modify the Recurring From date. The Recurring From date reflects the Current Period from the Global Variables.
    • If the Recurring To date is blank, the journal entry won't have an end date and will continue to recur. Once a Recurring To contains a date, the journal entry posting stops on that month.
    • The Copy Journal Process runs the process of copying Recurring Journal Entries and checking for a value in the Recurring To field.
  3. Expand the suitable year and quarter.
  4. Double-click the correct month.
JE tag

Type a JE Tag, for example, Revenue Reclass 1.

  • JE Tags can make searching for a particular journal entry easier. You can create a naming convention within your organization.
  • JE Tags have a limit of 50 characters.
Description

Enter a description of why the journal entry is being created, for example, sales revenue reclassification.

The Description field is limited to 250 characters.

  1. Select OK, once all required dimensions contain a value.
    The Journal Entry screen appears.

NOTE: The dimensions shown in red must be filled in to continue entering the journal entry. Certain dimensions can be prepopulated. The administrator can modify the journal configuration file to enable you to either pick a member or see a default member that may or may not be changed.

After populating the header values of a new journal entry, ‌add details and populate other dimension members:

  1. Ensure that the checkbox next to the newly created journal entry is selected within the header section.
  2. Select Create on the Detail toolbar at the bottom right to add a row to the journal entry.
  3. Enter or select search to add an account.
    • Some of the other dimensions may have a default value that you may or may not be able to change. This depends on the journal configuration setup.
  4. Enter or select members for the other dimensions specific to your environment, such as Cost Center, Product, Intercompany, and Movement.
  5. Select the cell under Debit and type an amount, such as 4000, and then select Enter.
The journal entry's total amount is highlighted in red to indicate it's unbalanced.
  6. Select Create from the Detail Journal Entry toolbar.
  7. Select the cell in the Account column on the new row.
  8. Type or search for an account number, such as 1,000.
  9. Select the value in the Debit column and delete it.
  10. In the Credit column, type 4000 and select Enter.
The journal entry is now balanced.
  11. Select Save from the toolbar.
You can create journals, save them, and not post them to the tenant.
  12. Select Post from the top toolbar to post the journal entry.

Note: Anaplan Financial Consolidation allows unbalanced entries to be saved. However, only balanced entries can be posted.
