Model builders create modules for specific business purposes, such as margin calculation, employee expenses, and profit and loss reports. You can copy an existing module to build models quickly, and to test the effect of any changes without affecting the original module.

Create any modules you might need in Modules in the model settings bar.

If you're a workspace administrator, you can copy modules that you do not have access to. However, you will not be able to open them after the copy. If you want to open the original or the copied module, amend the permissions in Users in the model settings bar.

You cannot copy a module from another model. However, you can create a module with the same structure and import data from another model into the new module.

To copy a module:

  1. Select Modules in the model settings bar.
  2. Select the module you want to copy, and select Copy.
  3. Type the module name.
  4. Select the views to include in the copy:
    • Include all views to include saved views.
    • Default view only to exclude saved views.
  5. Select Include cell data in module copy to include all cell data in the copy.

Note: Any line item subsets or line item version formulas do not copy.

  1. Optionally, select a functional area for the module.
  2. Select OK. The copied module opens in a new tab.
