Workflow templates let you combine a sequence of tasks together to run Anaplan Data Orchestrator actions. You can run tasks immediately after the you set up the workflow template, or on a schedule.

To use Workflow, you must be assigned the Workflow Owner role. Tenant administrators can assign the Workflow Owner role in the Administration console.

Note: Workflow is an entitled service and you must opt in to access this feature. If you aren't entitled to Workflow, you can only include these workflow steps in the template: Machine task, Notification step, and Data Orchestrator

To set up Workflow with Data Orchestrator, create a workflow template that runs Data Orchestrator actions.

You can set up a Workflow template that runs Data Orchestrator extract and link actions. You can also set up a Workflow template that runs a Data Orchestrator pipeline action.

You can run these Data Orchestrator actions with the workflow template:

  • Extract action: Use this action to extract data from a connection to Data Orchestrator. Create a data extract in Data Orchestrator to run this action.
  • Link action: Use this action to push data from Data Orchestrator to an Anaplan model. Create a link in Data Orchestrator that pushes data to a model to run this action.
  • Pipeline action: Use this action to run a Data Orchestrator pipeline as part of a workflow. This enables you to automate data transfers based on a schedule, or trigger them manually as part of a larger sequence of tasks.

After you create the workflow template, you can either start the workflow immediately, or schedule when you want the workflow to start.
