Use a cube as the source for your dynamic cube, such as a cube from your Anaplan Financial Consolidation solution.
Change the layout, chart type, and format options of the dynamic chart within the Anaplan XL task pane.
Layout
- Within the Layout tab, under Available Hierarchies, choose the different hierarchies based on the dimensions of the cube.
- Within the Filters section, add filters based on the available hierarchies.
- Drag and drop a dimension within the Values section.
For example, drag and drop the Measure dimension to the Values section. Once you choose the dimension for the Values section, select the member on the Y Axis and the color to be displayed by selecting the ellipses next to each option. - Drag and drop the hierarchy of a dimension to the Columns section to specify the columns in the visualization chart. The Auto Wrap feature is turned on by default to make charts easier to read. It spreads the charts over two or more rows, each with a similar scale to compare the series.
- Define the dimensions to be used for rows in the chart.
- Drag and drop a group of a dimension to create different groups or categories in your visualization, such as Date.
- Drag and drop a hierarchy of a dimension to the Series section to arrange data groups.
- Drag and drop a hierarchy to the Animate charts by section to create animations or transitions in the chart.
- To view your selections, select the Apply changes immediately option.
- After choosing your selections, select Apply.
The Member Selector tab opens when you select a hierarchy within the Filters, Columns, Rows, Categories, Series, and Animate charts by sections.
Layout icons
At the top of the Layout tab, the icons below are available:
Icon | Description |
Remove Empty Columns | Eliminate any columns in the chart that don't contain any data. This helps in cleaning up the chart and making it more readable by removing unnecessary spaces. |
Remove Empty Rows | Removes any rows in the chart that are empty. This ensures that the chart only displays rows with actual data, improving its clarity and focus. |
Remove Empty Series | Remove any data series from the chart that don't have any values. A series is a set of related data points, and removing empty series helps in presenting a more concise and meaningful chart. |
Remove Empty Categories | Removes categories from the chart that don't have any associated data. Categories are usually used to group data points. Taking out empty categories helps keep the chart clean and organized. |
Clear Drills | Reset any drill-down actions that have been applied to the chart. Drill-down lets users look at data more closely by selecting on specific data points. Clearing drills brings the chart back to its original, basic view. |
Tooltips (Requires Value Hierarchy) | Enables tooltips, which are small pop-up windows that appear when you hover over a data point in the chart. Tooltips provide additional information about the data point, such as its value or other relevant details. Tooltips work best when the data has a structured hierarchy, allowing for more detailed and context-specific tooltips. |
Variables | Define variables that control what data is displayed in a dynamic chart. See below for more information. |
Properties | Modify the Interaction, General Options, Lockdown, XML, and Animation chart properties. |
View Data | View the data that is being used to create the chart. |
Report variables
Add a report variable to the Dynamic chart. Report variables are useful if you want the chart to display sales data for a particular date. The variable window opens, allowing you to set:
- Connection Defaults: These settings define the default values for the variable across the entire report. Changes here will apply to all instances of the variable.
- Override?: This section allows the override of connection defaults for a particular chart or report element. Changes here will solely impact this specific instance of the variable.
Columns:
- Name: lists the name of the variable, for example,
EffectiveDate
. - Mandatory Include: If checked, the variable must have a value selected. If unchecked, the variable may be left without a value.
- Operator: This specifies the comparison operator used in your query. For example, equals is selected, meaning you'll select a specific date. Other options include greater than, less than, or between.
- Dynamic Members: This is where you can select the actual values for the variable. The icons enable you to:
- Select values from a list (folder icon).
- Select multiple values (ellipsis icon)
- Add values (ellipsis icon)
- Remove selected values (trash can icon).
