Business rules map members in your data to a type

Business rules map members determine how they should be plotted and formatted in Business Charts and Template Tables. This is in line with the IBCS rules for unifying the visualization of scenarios.

    • Actuals are formatted in a solid dark gray
    • Plan values are outlined
    • Forecast values are hatched (diagonal fill pattern)
    • Expenses are plotted in the negative direction
    • Previous year's fill color is a lighter gray

Create business rules

Add business rules from the Anaplan XL >Insert > Business Chart menu. The first time you add a rule, a new sheet called XLCubedBusinessRules is added to the workbook. Any subsequent additions are made to the same sheet. This sheet maps the predefined business rule types on to the hierarchy members where they are applied‌. 

You can select which rules to apply to which members. 

Connection: Select which connection this rule applies to.

    • Rule: Select which rule to create.
    • Applies to connection: Apply the rule to the cube, any cube in the database, or any match.
    • Hierarchy: Select which hierarchy this rule will apply to.
    • Members: Drag and drop members into the correct plan to add them to the current rule. Rules applied to a parent member will also be applied to its children unless the child member has a different rule of its own. Specify whether the unique name or caption should be used on the Business Rules sheet.

Modify Anaplan XL Dynamic Charts formatting from the Anaplan XL Formats and Business Rules sheets. 

You can apply custom formatting to the dynamic charts based on the mappings defined in the AnaplanXLBusinessRules sheet. This can be done by adding Business Rule as the hierarchy, and one of the rules below as the member, in the slice highlighted areas of the format sheet.

    • Total
    • Actual
    • Plan
    • Forecast

For variance charts:

    • Positive Variance
    • Negative Variance
    • Zero Variance

For waterfalls:

    • Increase
    • Decrease
    • No Change

To make the Business rule formatting work, clear the formatting in the Anaplan XL Formatting pane. Select Dynamic Chart > Chart Styles > Formatting Pane.
