Workspace administrators can format data in list properties and line items. This determines how the data is represented and used in the model.
The default format for line items and list properties is Number. Other data format options are Boolean, Date, Time Period, List, Text, or No Data.
You can configure data formats to reflect more specific data types. For example, you can configure a property for the Text format with the General, Link, or Email data types.
You can also configure other settings according to data format and type. For example, if the data has the Number format, choose how many decimal places display and whether the number displays as a percentage or currency.
Note: The full value of a cell's data displays in the cell value details field, even if you format the line item to limit what displays in the cell.
Number
You can set these options:
Option | Information |
Minimum Significant Digits | The degree of precision relative to the size of the number. For example, if you set Minimum Significant Digits to 2 and enter 3.14159 in the cell, this displays as 3.1. |
Decimal Places | The number of decimal places that display. |
Thousand Separator | The symbol that separates thousands. You can choose Dot, Comma, Space, or None. The separator must be different to the symbol for the decimal point. For example, if the decimal point is set as Dot, and you select Dot as the thousands separator, the decimal point automatically changes to Comma. |
Decimal Point | The symbol for the decimal point. You can choose a Dot or Comma. This must be different to the thousands separator. If the thousands separator is set as Dot, and you select Dot as the decimal point, the thousand separator automatically changes to Comma. |
Negative Numbers | The symbol for negative numbers. You can choose Minus Sign or Brackets. |
Zero Formats | How zero values display. You can choose Zero, Blank, or Hyphen. |
Units | You can choose whether units are given as Currency, Percentage, or Custom Units. If you choose currency, you can choose whether this is indicated with a symbol or currency code. If you choose custom units, you can specify whether this is given as a prefix or a suffix. |
Compare | Select the text and color to be used to compare data values against a base case: Good (green), Bad (red), and Neutral (blue). |
Boolean
Cells with the Boolean format display as checkboxes. Users can select the checkbox to record a value of true, or deselect for a value of false.
Date
Cells with the date format contain dates. The way dates display is determined by your browser's language settings.
To check the setting currently in use, select About from the Help
Time Period
You can choose to format data by these time periods: Week, Month, Quarter, Half-Year, or Year. The options available to select depend on your model calendar settings. You can set the model calendar in the Time
List
Cells with the list format contain lists, list subsets, or line item subsets. These display in the cell as a picklist. For example, you can format a line item with a Countries list. Users can then select a country from the list to determine the data value for the cell.
Text
Text format cells contain text, and can have the types: General, Link, or Email.
You can enter a URL into a link format cell or an email address into an email format cell, along with optional display text. To edit a link or email text cell, double-click the cell, select the cell and the ellipsis
You can also use text format cells with the link type to store image URLs. This enables you to add images to a dashboard, worksheet, or board.
No Data
Cells with a No Data data type don't contain data, and don't contribute to the overall cell count. You can use No Data for subheadings or blank columns.
